The logo for The Rangoon pairs a clean, minimalist illustration of a traditional dagger with high-contrast, editorial-style typography. The icon is rendered in a steady, monoline weight that feels modern and approachable, while the wordmark features a sophisticated serif with dramatic thick-and-thin strokes. The most distinctive element is the interlocking “OO” in the name, which creates a subtle visual rhythm and serves as a clever focal point next to the sharp, geometric lines of the dagger graphic.

Brand Identity
This project was designed to brand a photography studio that specializes in “sharp” visual storytelling and a curated, artistic perspective. The goal was to move away from literal camera icons and instead use a dagger to symbolize precision, “cutting through” the noise, and the decisive moment of capturing a frame. By blending a symbol of heritage with a fashion-forward typeface, the identity positions the studio as a boutique space where technical skill meets a high-end, artistic aesthetic.
The primary challenge was ensuring the dagger icon felt like a professional “mark of the maker” rather than a disconnected or aggressive weapon. It needed to be stylized enough to read as a creative tool or a piece of vintage hardware. Another hurdle was balancing the airy, delicate lines of the “R” and the overlapping “O”s with the bolder weight of the icon, ensuring that the brand identity remained legible and impactful when watermarked onto high-resolution photographs or printed on matte business cards.
The main objective was to create a “visual signature” for a photographer that feels established, intentional, and slightly edgy. The branding needed to appeal to clients looking for more than just standard portraits, specifically those who value composition, contrast, and a unique point of view. By utilizing a black-and-white palette, the objective was to provide a neutral yet authoritative backdrop that doesn’t compete with the colors of the studio’s actual photographic work.
The final result is a chic, versatile identity that looks just as good on a studio storefront as it does as a small digital watermark. The combination of the “sharp” icon and the interlocking typography successfully communicates a brand that is both technically precise and creatively fluid. It establishes The Rangoon as a premium photography studio with a distinct personality, offering a professional look that feels timeless, artistic, and effortlessly cool.
